The major problems that Miss Mijares encountered in the story was the death of her mother wherein she mourned on that very day kneeding her motherââ¬â¢s flesh and struggling to keep herself strong which also changed her ideals in life which made her superiority as a women more resilient. Another problem that she encountered was confronting her emotions especially with her feelings to the new man at the carpentry shop wherein during the interview and application for the job. The way Miss Mijares keep her distance from other people and the way she talk to them serve as a defense mechanism. Her unsociable manners coupled with frank and abrupt way of speech is a disguise for her loneliness. Miss Mijares shows a bossy or arrogant kind of personality towards the guy, furthermore she was unwittingly drawn to the man especially during the time that both of them were stranded on an unknown street because of heavy rain and Miss Mijares driven by her feeling and emotions to the guy allowed herself to the invitation of the man. One day, she met a man applying on the job she was handing. Unlike the other applicants, she felt an unusual and strange feeling and she noticed that heââ¬â¢s teeth has a missing tooth. The man, unlike the other workers, has a big impact on Miss Mijares. She cared a lot on that man and even cared if heââ¬â¢s around or not. Miss Mijares looked at the man sharply feeling the malice in his voice knowing that the man has no wifeâ⬠¦ yet. She was ashamed knowing that as if that man knew the ruffles on her blouse was one of the ways to put impact and volume on her chests. One day, this man was absent and Miss Mijares lost her way home which was a question why since it is been ages that she sauntering in that place. Nineteenth Amendment
Nineteenth Amendment Free Online Research Papers The Nineteenth Amendment The Nineteenth Amendment was a vital turning point for the United States and its government. It was important because it changed voting rights for women. It also gave the women of the United States more freedom. The Nineteenth Amendment also changed the way women were viewed by society and gave them a higher place in society. Before the nineteenth amendment was passed in June 4, 1919 women were not allowed to vote. If they tried to they would get in trouble with the law and they would be imprisoned. The article ââ¬Å"Womenââ¬â¢s Fight for the Vote,â⬠reads that Susan B. Anthony was prosecuted for illegally voting in the 1872 Elections, in Rochestor, New York. In Susan Barbers article, ââ¬Å"One Hundred Years towards Suffrage: An Overview,â⬠in 1874 while Susan B. Anthony was being prosecuted and taken to trial Sojourner Truth demanded a ballot to vote in the Battle Creek, Michigan, but she was turned away. However, in 1878 a women suffrage amendment was introduced in the United States Congress. The wording was unchanged in 1919, when the amendment finally passed both houses. This amendment was and still is very important because before this amendment women were allowed to do very little. The Nineteenth Amendment gave women more freedom and put women in a higher place in society. Women were obligated to be housewives and the majority of them were not allowed to work. An exception was when men went off to war women would have to replace the men in their jobs until they came back from war. All of this was before the Nineteenth Amendment was passed. After it was passed by congress women were allowed to vote also they were allowed to work on their own and have their own jobs, not just to replace men while they were off at war. They had big moral values and people finally valued them. In 1920, half a century after obtaining the right to vote women got the right to vote also. The nineteenth amendment read that the right of citizens of the United States shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. Women felt that they as citizens should have the right to vote. Many women like Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucy Stone, and Julia Ward Howe fought for the womenââ¬â¢s right to vote. Stanton and Anthony marched in a womenââ¬â¢s suffrage parade in 1919. They worked hard and tirelessly for womenââ¬â¢s voting rights. Many women would get together and they staged parades, organized protest meetings, endured hunger strikes, heckled candidates for Parliament, and spat policemen who tired to silence them. Many of the women involved were often imprisoned for their activities, before parliament granted them the right to vote in 1928. When women got the right to vote it changed the way they were viewed by society. They were given more respect and were now seen as people instead of just housekeepers. However, Native Americans still did not have the right to vote. Four years after ratification of the nineteenth amendment in 1924, citizenship; including the right to vote, was extended to Native Americans. The beginning of the fight for womenââ¬â¢s suffrage is usually traced to the ââ¬Å"Declaration of Sentimentsâ⬠produced at the womenââ¬â¢s convention in Seneca Falls, New York in 1848. Four years later at the womenââ¬â¢s right convention is Syracuse in 1852. Susan B. Anthony joined the fight arguing that: ââ¬Å"The right women needed above everyoneâ⬠¦was the right of suffrage.â⬠In May 1919 the necessary two-thirds vote in favor of women suffrage amendment was finally mustered in congress and the proposed amendment was sent to the states for ratification. because women lacked the vote and therefore political power, they were denied many opportunities that were open and available for men. In 1872, Myra Bradwell challenged Illinois law which restricted membership in the state bar to men. The Supreme Court upheld the law. In minor, a unanimous vote the court rejected the argument that either the privileges and immunities clause of the fourteenth amendment extended vote to women. In July 1890, the Territory of Wyoming, which allowed women to vote, was admitted as a state. Wyoming became the first state with women suffrage rights. Many women got together and made a petition asking that voting rights be given to women in 1871. Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and many others signed it. After the civil war, the suffrage movement was divided due to ideolog y differences. Two separate organizations pursued voting rights for women. Both sides made a petition, but the petition was obviously not granted at the time. However, men were not the only ones who opposed to womenââ¬â¢s suffrage. Some opposition also came from women as well. Some women believed that the political process and power was demeaning to their roles as wives and mothers. In New York, there was a Womenââ¬â¢s Vote Anti-Suffrage Party that circulated a petition against womenââ¬â¢s suffrage in 1918. The remaining twelve states of the union took over sixty years to add ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, ten of these states originally had rejected the amendment. Mississippi was the last state of the forty-eight states to ratify the amendment when it did so on March 22, 1984. A vital amendment that changed the United States constitution forever was the nineteenth amendment. It gave women the right to vote. However, it took half a century after for the women to gain this right in 1920. The amendment read: ââ¬Å"Section One: The right of citizens of the united States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Section Two: Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.â⬠The nineteenth amendment was passed by congress June 4, 1919 and was ratified in August 18, 1920. Therefore the nineteenth amendment was and is still to this day vital to the United States Constitution. It made a huge impact and changed things for the best. The story teaches us the importance of determination, commitment and perseverance. We come to know that we can achieve anything in life if we have strong will power and confidence to bring a change. Pierre speaks of his determination in this dialogue with Rock- the boy who vandalized his school directorââ¬â¢s car: Another precious lesson I have learned from the movie is that students tend to develop a feeling of trust with teachers when the latter provide them with a healthy atmosphere. Pierre faced sheer conflict with his students initially, like when he said, ââ¬Å"What if I said these dances would make you look cool?â⬠To this Rock said, ââ¬Å"Id say youre full of shit.â⬠But finally, the same students got to love him. A trust worthy relationship between the teacher and his students leads to better performance outcomes. The teacher-student relationship is as important as the relationship between the parents and their kids. Teachers are spiritual parents, and it is their obligation to provide the students with all the trust they need to grow up into happy and healthy citizens. This trusting relationship helps the students to cross the barrier and be friends with their teachers. For example: This dialogue shows how Pierre tried to bring out self-confidence in his students through interacting with them one-on-one. Animal Farm Essay
The novel Animal Farm was cleverly written by George Orwell to make fun of the Russian government. Orwell made all of the events in the book relate to an event during the Russian revolution. The rebellion in George Orwellââ¬â¢s Animal Farm represents the Russian revolution during the reign of Joseph Stalin. This novel is an allegory that can be taken as a childrenââ¬â¢s book or a book with a serious political opinion. George Orwell was born in India in 1903 to the name Eric Arthur Blair. He was a very opinionated man who despised political lying. Orwell strongly believed in a form of government called socialism. He moved to England an attended Eton college. Shortly after, he moved back to India and joined the Indian Imperial Police for five years. After doing a variety of jobs around France he started to write articles until beginning to write his books. In the sources I used the definition of the Russian Revolution is ââ¬Å"Russian Revolution, violent upheaval in Russia in 1917 that overthrew the czars government.â⬠In the novel the rebellion of the animals was a violent upheaval on Manor Farm that overthrew Mr. Jones. Orwellââ¬â¢s point in writing this novel was to show the stupidity and flaws of the Russian government and the stupidity of the events that took place in the time period of the rise of communism. The main events that happen in the novel go word for word to what major events took place during Porter 2 the rise of Joseph Stalin. In the Russian Revolution Joseph Stalin took the words of the beloved Karl Marks and used them to gain power for his own doing. The same thing happened in Animal Farm when Napoleon used the words of Old Major to start his own Revolution. George Orwellââ¬â¢s Animal Farm is a story about rebellion. The farm animals rebel against Mr. Jones, the farm owner, because of neglect. When the animals chase out Mr. and Mrs. Jones, the animals immediately rejoice. The pigs gain control of the farm. They soon forget the real meaning of ââ¬Å"Animalismâ⬠and the other animals cannot tell the difference between the humans and the pigs. Orwellââ¬â¢s Animal Farm parallels the characters, events, and socialism of the Russian Revolution. The characters in Animal Farm favor the main personalities of the Russian Revolution. Mr. Jones is a reflection of Czar Nicholas II, who lost control of his reign by rapid industrialization. The rebellion in the novel mirrors the R ussian revolution. The windmill is a symbol for Stalinââ¬â¢s Five-Year plan. Just a windmill was promised to make the animalââ¬â¢s life easier. The Five-Year Plan was supposed to improve Soviet industry to the point that the peopleââ¬â¢s life would be made easier. Stalin also thought that the Five Year Plan would increase production and allow the soviets to shorten the workweek. And just like the windmill, and Stalinââ¬â¢s plan was an utter failure. After the destruction of the Windmill, the Animals decided to build another one. Just like how Stalin kept churning out new Five-year Plans. Always promising that each new plan would solve all of Russiaââ¬â¢s problems. The same as Porter 3à when Napoleon kept on making up plans that would benefit him in the long run. It all started when the hens refused to give their eggs up to the pigs. Napoleon then decided to starve them until they change their minds. Several of the henââ¬â¢s die, and the rest simply give up. Soon after, Napoleon calls a general meeting. The dogs drag out several pigs. The pigs confess that they were working with Snowball and Mr. Frederick, and a moment later the dogs tear their throats out. After that, the same thing happens with the surviving hens from the rebellion. At the end, there is a pile of corpses by Napoleons feet. What we have here is a nightmare that mirrors to the Great Purge. The Great Purge took place between 1936 and 1938. Working to eliminate every last trace of the people Stalin had executed or sent to Gulag labor camps. Many of those who died, died because they claimed association with Leon Trotsky. Estimates of how many died in the purges ranges from about 500,000 up to 2 million. Stalin and Napoleon were evil men. Orwell was a very clever man. He had a lot of ideas on how government should be run. He also was a very talented writer. Using those skills he crafted the novel our class read Animal Farm. This novel could be read at an elementary level or at a high school level with a huge political perspective. Orwell cleverly used the story of animals taking over a farm to make fun of the communist government. In doing so he included the events as told in my past paragraphs. The Russian Revolution, Stalinââ¬â¢s Five-Year Plan, and The Great Purge. All events secretly mentioned in the form of a childrenââ¬â¢s fable. Orwell was truly a clever man.
